An early-morning crash took place on May 1 that ended in tragedy. A 24-year-old driver was killed in a five-vehicle accident on roadway US 90 B at General De Gaulle Drive in New Orleans. Edgard Antonio Obando was behind the wheel of one of the cars and did not survive the incident.
He was driving a 2020 Honda Civic, and his vehicle collided with the rear of a 2005 Acura TX. After the two cars made contact, the Civic rotated uncontrollably, smashing into three other cars as it careened through the lanes of the roadway.
Obando was not wearing a seatbelt at the time and was thrown from the Civic during the incident. He was pronounced dead at the scene. It is unknown whether he was impaired, as toxicology examinations are still in progress.
The other drivers involved came away with minor injuries and were transported to a local hospital for treatment.
It has not been reported whether or not the other drivers were restrained.
