Calcasieu Parish Schools Plagued By Student Gun Threats

Although it can be sad to leave the relaxation and daily fun of summer break behind, going back to school and being around friends is always something exciting to look forward to.

However, the beginning of the school year in Calcasieu Parish was met with a scary and sadly familiar narrative that’s been widely discussed across the country in recent years. The safety of students at Moss Bluff Middle School was jeopardized last week when a fellow pupil allegedly looked to cause destruction on a frightening level.

“During the initial investigation, detectives learned while the 12-year-old was at school he threatened to shoot other students on campus,” said the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office. Via Brproud.com

This took place on September 1, and the investigation commenced around 5 p.m. after the school day had concluded. The student was arrested by the authorities after questioning, was charged with terrorizing, and was later taken to the Juvenile Detention Center.

Unfortunately for the area, the episode at Moss Bluff Middle School has not been an isolated incident. The prior week, a 14-year-old also threatened to incite a shooting at Sam Houston High School after disturbing text messages were sent.

“Threats like these will be taken seriously by law enforcement and fully investigated. Especially now where many are hyper sensitive to school shooting after events that have transpired over the last few years,” said Calcasieu Sheriff Tony Manuso. Via KPLCTV.com

The high school student was also arrested and sent to Juvenile Detention.

The situations that have arisen in Calcasieu Parish and throughout the United States continue to represent one of society’s worst nightmares.
