Claudia Barraza killed in motorcycle crash in Ascension Parish

Unfortunately, a 47-year-old woman lost her life in a motorcycle accident in Ascension Parish on the afternoon of June 25. Claudia Barraza was operating a 2019 Can-Am Ryker bike, going south on Louisiana 1 near Louisiana Roadway 943.

Details surrounding what happened next are a little vague, as the incident is still being investigated. Barraza’s motorcycle veered off of the road to the right, where it went into a ditch. It would then strike an embankment.

Unfortunately, Barraza would be thrown from the motorcycle once this collision took place. She was rushed to a local hospital for treatment but did not survive.

According to reports, Barraza was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. There has been a lot of discussion in recent years about motorcycle helmets, and the preference that riders wear Department of Transportation-approved headgear. It’s unclear whether Barraza’s helmet was green-lit by the DOT.

Toxicology samples were obtained at the crash scene to determine whether any foreign substances were in Barraza’s system that day.

The Johnson Firm is saddened to hear about Barraza’s death. If anyone requires legal services concerning a motor vehicle accident or the death of a loved one, we can be reached at (337) 433-1414.
