18-year-old Port Barre High graduate ejected, killed in single-vehicle crash

Unfortunately, a young man riding in the passenger seat of a Freightliner utility vehicle was killed on August 28 after being hurled from the car.

Si Gabriel Sonnier was just 18 years old, and reports indicated that he was not restrained during that fateful trip.

The truck swerved off the road around the intersection of Louisiana Highways 112 and 1146. The driver, who was wearing a seatbelt, tried to get the 2015 Freightliner back on the road but turned too drastically. The car passed through another lane of oncoming traffic and eventually flipped over. That flip turned into a fatal one for Sonnier, who was thrown from the vehicle during the violent gyration.

He was declared dead at the scene of the accident.

The driver, whose identity has not been released to the public, suffered moderate injuries and is being treated at a nearby medical facility.

Investigation as to why the truck initially lost control is ongoing. Toxicology samples were extracted from the driver as well.

Despite the high potential for other vehicles to be involved, it was only the 2015 Freightliner that was present in this incident.

The Johnson Firm is extremely sorry to hear about the death of Sonnier and expresses its condolences to his friends and family. Our legal team can be reached at (337) 433-1414 in the event you or someone you know is hurt in a car accident.
