23-Year-Old Kami Manuel Killed in Wrong-Way Wreck

By and large, the rules of the road are relatively straightforward. With an eye towards protecting oneself and fellow citizens, we rely on our fellow drivers to adhere to those regulations because it seems like most accidents could be avoided if the traffic safety laws were followed.

However, fatalities resulting from a lack of caution behind the wheel continue to increase at alarming rates. As of September 15, Troop D of the Louisiana State Troopers has investigated 17 crashes resulting in 19 deaths in 2022, including a recent accident which occurred when the driver of a 2006 Chevrolet Silverado drove on the wrong side of the road.

In the early hours of the morning on September 15, 23-year-old Kami Angelle Manuel was heading east on Interstate 10. A few miles ahead of her, a 2015 Ram pickup truck was also headed in that same direction. For reasons that are unknown at this time, Manuel began heading west on the eastbound lane, causing her vehicle to collide with the pickup truck. Sadly, Manuel was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the pickup truck, whose identity has not been released, sustained serious injuries and was transported to a local hospital.

Both drivers were wearing their seatbelts at the time of the crash, which is always encouraged by law enforcement. Toxicology samples of both drivers were obtained and will be examined to determine if substance abuse played a role in the tragic events that took place last week.

Death in the motor vehicle space can be emotionally, mentally and physically difficult to overcome, but The Johnson Firm can be reached at (337) 433-1414 if you or someone you know was wrongfully struck on the road.
