The Lafayette community is looking to wrap its head around a shooting that occurred at La Bamba Nightclub on the evening of April 9. The details surrounding what took place are still coming in to help paint a clearer picture, but initial reports indicate that officers responded to a call placed around 9:45 PM of shots being fired in the La Bamba parking lot.

According to Layfayette Police Spokesperson Sgt. Robin Green, “When [officers] arrived at the area where the shots were coming from they located one victim suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. As a result of this, our officers did have to engage a suspect that was in possession of a gun at the time.”

The man shot by the officer was later identified as Dre Solomon. He was taken to the hospital for medical treatment but died at the hospital later in the evening.

The Lafayette Police Department and Louisiana State Police Troop 1 are collaborating together in order to determine how things unfolded. For the time being, the officer involved has been placed on paid administrative leave.
