15-Year-Old Bicyclist Killed by Drunk and Drugged Driver

On January 27, 2022, a 15-year-old was out doing what a lot of teenagers love to do: ride their bicycles.

“We had a bicyclist doing what he should have been doing,” said Calcasieu Parish District Attorney Stephen Dwight. “He had reflective gear on, he had lights on, and he was traveling in the roadway-where he was entitled to be.” Via KPLCTV.com

Despite following all of the rules that evening, the boy’s outing was cut short by a drunk driver whose blood-alcohol level tests came back over two times the legal limit.

The driver allegedly also had a potent combination of drugs in his system, including but not limited to THC and methamphetamine. He would end up speeding away from the horrific incident.

Since that fateful night last winter, the community has been grieving the loss of the boy. Now, they are one step closer to receiving justice, as 30-year-old Marcus Pentecost pleaded guilty to vehicular homicide last week. He also entered a guilty plea to a charge of possession of a firearm by a felon.

It will be a long time before Pentecost is able to rejoin the community. Judge Clayton Davis ruled that the defendant will serve 20 years for taking the life of the teenager on Lewis Street that night and will also serve 20 years for the firearm charge.

This isn’t Pentecost’s first run-in with the law and authorities are content with Pentecost’s sentencing.

“He hasn’t held himself accountable. I’m glad that we went to court and held him accountable in this instance and he’s going to do 20 years,” Dwight said. “I’m proud of that. I’m proud of our office and what we did.” Via KPLCTV.com
