Overturned Tanker Truck Latest in a String of Accidents on Gautier Rd.

As the saying goes, “the bigger they are, the harder they fall.” That can be applied to many things in life, including the largest of trucks. It’s hard to envision such a massive vehicle being affected by seemingly minor factors on the road, but tanker trucks are not immune to accidents that can devastate a community.

During the week of July 11th, an 18-wheeler came rumbling down the street at the intersection of Gauthier and Big Lake Roads. Unfortunately, the maneuverability of a vehicle that large can be limited, and the driver of the truck had to react instantaneously when a car immediately pulled out in front of him.

Luckily, the tanker driver was able to respond to the impending danger quickly, and did not hit the other car. However, in doing so, the truck sped straight into a ditch and overturned. Injuries to the driver were not readily reported, but it can be considered a small miracle that no lives were lost in the incident.

The truck crash caused a corrosive chemical leak, which took several hours to fully clean up.

It appears as if this part of town is no stranger to accidents. Locals worry that a lack of directional clarity is the downfall for a lot of drivers.

“I think part of the confusion is that when you travel down Gauthier Road, every intersection is either a four-way stop or a stop light. [However, t]hat’s not the case at this intersection,” said resident Scot Galt. Via KPLCTV.com

People in the area have commented that there are multiple accidents at this intersection on a weekly basis. It seems like the demand for corrective action related to this location is growing stronger.
