Weekend shootings plague Baton Rouge

Unfortunately, the weekend was not kind to those in the Baton Rouge area. A couple of scary shooting incidents took place within a short time of one another, and the community is left searching for answers.

Both shootings took place during the evening of April 23, with one of them coming now far from LSU’s campus near West Chimes Street. An LSU student was transported to the hospital with a gunshot wound that is reported as non-life-threatening.

“LSU Police continue to investigate an incident that occurred around 8 p.m. Sunday night near West Chimes Street,” the school said. “The University is providing every available resource to support any students impacted by this incident.” Via TheAdvocate.com

Details surrounding the case are still being investigated, so the circumstances surrounding the shooting are not yet known.

Around the same time, 18-year-old Kevinesha McDowell was shot and killed on Geronimo Street. Another person was critically injured, and their injuries are deemed to be life-threatening.

Initial information indicates that the pair was shot by a family member after a disagreement escalated. The person who was critically injured is still fighting for their life at the hospital.
