Cleveland McCraney, 2 others arrested in Westlake shooting

It didn’t take long for Westlake Police to get to the bottom of a reported shooting in the 2100 block of Walker Drive on the evening of May 20. They arrived to find multiple used casings that were fired from a 9 mm handgun.

Authorities also observed a house on the block with its front entrance open. Westlake Police carefully approached the home to determine if there were any live threats or to render assistance to injured parties. Fortunately, neither was present at that time.

They would then turn their attention to the alleged perpetrator who fired the gun. Reports indicate that this was 38-year-old Cleveland McCraney, who became the focal point of the investigation.

Westlake Police worked in tandem with Lake Charles Police and the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office to catch up with McCraney, who was in the process of driving away.

McCraney was apparently not alone during the shooting, as authorities also arrested two other men in connection with the incident. Their identities have not yet been released to the public.

All three men have been booked at the Calcasieu Parish Correctional Center.

It’s not known at this time whether McCraney and the other men had a pre-existing relationship with whomever the target of the shooting was intended to be.
